BACK TO CANDY & COOKIES.
KIFFLES
It is believed  that Kiffles are Eastern European

Ingredients:
1/2 lb. butter
1  8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
2 egg yokes
2-1/2 c. flour

Directions:
Let cream cheese and butter come to room temperature.
Mix together with egg yolks until smooth and well blended.
Add flour a little at a time; mix until smooth.
Shape into a ball and wrap with plastic wrap; chill over night.  
Pull off small pieces to work with, put the rest back in the refrigerator.
Roll out very thin (at least 1/4 "thick) on a mixture of flour and confectioners sugar.
Cut out into 3 inch circles, or squares. Transfer to baking sheet about an inch apart.
Place 1 tsp. of commercial fruit pastry filling, jam or filling below, in the center of each cookie.
Be careful not to get any near the edges.
Fold cookie in half & seal edges by pressing together with fingertips .
Bake at 350ºF for 10-12 minutes; watch carefully as dough burns quickly.
Filling: Mix together well
1/2 lb. finely chopped nuts
scant 1/4 c. scalded milk
1/4 c. sugar
2 beaten egg whites  
2 tsp. softened butter
